Meet Jill

The instructor.

Jill Collard teaches SUP yoga and studio flow out of Nevada City, California. She has been on the mat since 2003, certified to teach since 2011, and on the water with students since 2018.

“Yoga is a sacred opportunity to explore our personal strengths and boundaries.”

A single class in a small studio felt like an immediate homecoming. I knew I had found a spiritual tool I’d been searching for my entire life. After years of dedicated self-practice, I felt a powerful calling to share that profound sense of “home” with others.

In 2011 I completed my 200-hour training at Brentwood Yoga Center and became a Registered Yoga Teacher. I went on to teach at beloved studios like Brentwood Yoga Center, Castro Valley Yoga, and Downtown Yoga in Pleasanton, sharing the practice I cherished.

My teaching style truly evolved in 2013 after a transformative three-day Yoga Trance Dance teacher training with Shiva Rea. The dynamic, fluid sequences I learned there continue to inspire the flow I teach today, whether on the mat or the paddleboard.

My passion for combining yoga with the outdoors blossomed in 2018, when I completed a four-day SUP yoga teacher training in Lake Tahoe with Amelia Travis at Stoked Yogi. Practicing yoga on a paddleboard felt like the perfect fusion of my two great loves.

When I teach, I strive to dismantle common yoga stereotypes. You don’t need to be super spiritual or even inherently flexible to begin your practice. For me, yoga is a sacred opportunity to explore our personal strengths and boundaries. Every body arrives with unique needs and capabilities, so I always offer variations for all levels, ensuring everyone can find their own comfortable and challenging path.

Asked & answered

A few things people want to know.

  • Is SUP yoga beginner friendly?
Absolutely. I provide beginner-through-advanced instruction in every class. Once we anchor, the boards are stable and we work at your pace.
  • Will I fall off the board?
Once anchored, the boards are very stable, and we start in the morning when the water is calm. It is possible — that is what the life vests are for.
  • Do I need to know how to swim?
Yes. You must know how to swim to take a SUP class. Life jackets are provided and required.
  • Can kids take SUP yoga?
Ages 15 to 17 are welcome and must be accompanied by an adult.
  • What should I bring?
Sunscreen, water, and a towel. I provide the boards, paddles, life jackets, anchors, and a dry bag.
  • How far in advance should I book a private group?
Two weeks. Private groups are 2 to 6 yogis at Scott’s Flat Lake; pricing scales with group size.
